A New Mexico man will remain in federal custody pending trial on charges that stem from the 2021 disappearance of a Native American woman. Ella Mae Begay's disappearance from her home on the Navajo Nation has helped raise awareness about missing person cases and unsolved slayings in Indian Country. A U.S. magistrate judge on Friday ordered Preston Henry Tolth held without bond after his attorney entered not guilty pleas on his behalf to charges of assault and carjacking. The judge said the allegations involved "senseless acts of extreme violence" and that Tolth was a danger to the community.
